The Position: Global Sourcing Manager
Jetboil Inc., part of the Johnson Outdoors family of brands, is seeking experienced engineering candidates with proven supplier development and outsourcing technical liaison expertise for its Sourcing Manager position. Jetboil is the premier brand in portable cooking technologies enabling consumers to have hot food and drink on the go. Role:
§ Identify, initiate and maintain both overseas and domestic outsourcing relationships to eliminate sole source risk and ensure adequate growth capacity in supply chain
§ Provide project management for new products for successful on time transition from Research & Development to the production environment
§ Ensure all outsourced products and components meet the quality standards required under Jetboil’s Quality Management System (QMS)
§ Ensure Jetboil obtains competitive pricing, payment and delivery terms, while maintaining its quality standards
Key Elements of the Role
Supplier Development:
§ Continuously cultivate and build supplier relationships enabling the company to respond to changing business, economic and supplier conditions and to meet growth, quality, and profitability improvement imperatives
§ Develop and implement a global supply chain strategy, including product and component make/buy decisions and supplier relationship management.
§ Develop and manage the process used in make/buy decisions that include optimizing cost and quality elements
Supplier Capability Evaluation:
§ Ensure suppliers possess the technical, manufacturing, process, and quality competencies needed to make/ assemble Jetboil products.
§ Evaluate supplier capacity constraints and ensure that suppliers are capable of meeting Jetboil production needs
§ Hold suppliers accountable for adherence to Jetboil quality standards, processes and functional inspections.
Relationship Management
§ Be present on the ground in Asia sufficiently to interface with suppliers, acting as the project management and technical liaison as well as the relationship manager, to achieve cost reduction and quality improvement targets.
§ Be the primary communicator of quality standards to supplier factories • Identify avenues to partner with suppliers to establish “Win/Win” results
§ Confront, understand and rapidly resolve the technical and quality issues that slow progress toward the established goals.
§ Negotiate the lowest total Cost of Goods Sold, while maintaining quality and optimum trade terms
Project Management
§ Fulfill role as technical and outsourcing liaison between R&D, in house process engineering, and suppliers for the entire range of new products and in-line changes to existing products
§ Establish product launch timelines with production milestones, utilize effective project management tools and proactively communicate (verbally and written) project updates with all stakeholders
§ Coordinate and prioritize activities of in house process engineering, production, and suppliers to establish launch schedules and coordinate contingency plans
§ Gather and analyze factual data before taking action.
§ Hold stakeholders accountable to find resolution to barriers and roadblocks and to achieve targets.
Education, and Experience:
§ Minimum of 5 years sourcing and supply chain management experience, including Asian outsourcing
§ Ability to travel to and be a sustained presence with Asian-sourced vendors, on-site with outsourced vendors 50% of time
§ Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably BSME
§ Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
§ Proven relationship building capabilities
§ Proven strong negotiation capabilities, including price, payment and delivery terms with Asian suppliers
§ Established project management skills, including strong organizational, communication, follow-up and interpersonal skills (at all organizational levels).
