The Position: Materials Developer - Softgoods
| Position Summary: | | This position supports the development and commercialization of all textiles and trimming materials from the research phase thru commercialization for Black Diamond, Inc. This function supports RnD and is the principle link to the raw material supply chain, and therefore is responsible for the overall performance, quality, color management and sustainability of the raw materials and components. Daily activities, as defined in the Essential Functions, should be accomplished based on the education and experience in fiber and textile engineering, garment manufacturing, physical properties testing and an intimate knowledge of the end use requirements in the activities of climbing, skiing and mountaineering. Candidates should be collaborative with other internal teams, open to innovative concepts and business practices, and be able to clearly and visually present their work. This position will support textile and softgoods related products for any of the Black Diamond, Inc brands including Black Diamond Apparel, Gregory Mountain Packs, Black Diamond Equipment and POC. | | Qualifications: | Education Required: BS in Textiles, Engineering or related field
Preferred: Advanced coursework in related field of Textiles, Design or Garment Manufacturing
Work Experience Required: 2 years in apparel industry at a brand, manufacturer or material supplier
Preferred: 3+ years as above and with cross training in sourcing, laboratory or quality functions.
| | Skills and General Experience: | Working knowledge of textile materials, specifically technical textiles, from yarn through finished fabrics including wet processing and physical properties. Basic knowledge of engineering materials used for softgoods trimming and accessories including design, tooling and testing. General experience with project management, lab test analysis, physical properties of materials, product constructions, price negotiations, lab dips, safety standards, chemical regulation, sustainable material supply, PLM systems, and CAD/ Adobe Illustrator. Good communication skills, time management and conducting productive meetings with both internal customers and global material suppliers. Advanced knowledge of material technology used for thermal management, waterproof breathable, moisture management, stitch-less constructions and color management are a plus.
