The Position: Domestic Sales Manager

Domestic Sales Manager Job Description

 

Position Summary

 

The Domestic Sales Manager (DSM) is responsible for driving sales in the US domestic market through the OEM, distribution, and Independent Bike Dealer channels.  DSM is responsible for management of outside Sales Representative group including hiring, setting / managing to goals, mentoring, providing and soliciting ideas / feedback to / from this group.  DSM is required to travel to meet with existing and potential customers and Sales Reps.  Responsible for forecasting domestic product demand, assisting with marketing strategy and implementation, providing product feedback to Product Management group and working with Sales and Management groups on company / product strategy.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Domestic Sales Manager is expected to:

  1. Build the Reynolds domestic OEM business through consistent personal interaction with key positions in current and potential customers in this segment.
  2. Manage and grow current distributor sales channel through consistent personal interaction with key positions in current and potential customers in this segment.
  3. Manage domestic outside Sales Representative group through daily / weekly conversations, periodic sales trips with Reps, semi-annual group meetings. 
  4. Brief and train the Sales Reps at sales meetings.
  5. Regularly engage with Independent Bike Dealers regarding sales, trends, products, and ideas.
  6. Develop and manage to sales goals consistent with company objectives.
  7. Prepare and regularly update sales forecasts by market segment in coordination with customers, Product Development, Production, and other Sales Team members.
  8. Provide long-term demand forecasts by product line to Management, Manufacturing and Purchasing.
  9. Manage Reynolds Customer Service Representative(s).
  10. Understand current market demands and conditions along with the primary drivers, barriers, and lifecycles by market segment.
  11. Understand market and customer fundamentals including business models, margin requirements, price points, and Sales programs.
  12. Be an expert with respect to the competition and their respective product offerings by segment.  Conduct benchmarking and lead competitive intelligence briefings to the organization.
  13. Work with the Product Development Group to set pricing by Channel to meet revenue and profitability goals.
  14. Develop / lead initiatives that profitably drive revenue and market share gains specifically targeting new market segments – Tri, Mountain, and International.
  15. Work with the “C” level to monitor product line profit & loss (P&L).  Implement initiatives to address issues and/or opportunities to improve profitability.
  16. Develop cross-functional relationships with Product Development, Marketing, Purchasing, Finance, Manufacturing, Product Engineering, and Customer Service/Warranty.
  17. Interact with customers, distributors, retailers, and reps regarding product satisfaction, trends, and future product requirements.
  18. Participate in Industry specific trade shows and other events.
  19. Work within and Sales and Department budgets.
  20. Act as a leader within the company.

Required Qualifications

 

  1. Minimum of 5 years experience as a Domestic Sales Manager or equivalent position in the bicycle industry – preferably at an OEM or at an established component supplier.
  2. Minimum 10 years experience in various functional roles within one or more of the following bicycle industry segments – Road, Tri, Mountain, other.
  3. Understanding and knowledge of the global bicycle industry, channels, and culture.
  4. Proven track record in sales and sales management including record of creativity, growth and solid management decision making.
  5. Must be an entrepreneurial thinker and self-starter who can build new sales strategies in addition to optimizing existing ones.
  6. Can persevere through hurdles and roadblocks, ask for help when required, but independently make fast progress toward doubling revenue.
  7. Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams without formal authority.
  8. Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  9. Solid decision making and problem solving skills.
  10. Proven ability to think analytically, strategically, creatively, and practically. 
  11. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with proficiency with MS Office Suite. 
  12. Bachelor's degree (MBA preferred); strong financial acumen.
  13. Must be able to travel 25%-35%+ of the time.
  14. Follow all established ISO and MQC procedures and participate in continuous improvement.
  15. Performs related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.  Complies with all MQC policies.

Compensation:    $65K-$75K base salary + commission
