Position summary:    Directs and coordinates activities involved in operating all sports retail outlets at Alyeska Resort by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.  Salary is commensurate with experience.

Position responsibilities:

·        Responsible for profitability, management and operations of all sports retail outlets at Alyeska Resort.

·        Develop and design all event related and F&B related logo merchandise and clothing.

·        Identifies and locates suppliers, solicits quotes for merchandise.  Negotiates with vendors, places orders for merchandise, and determines allocations to each sports retail outlet.

·        Manages and coordinates the purchasing of inventory for all sports retail outlets, ensures quality products are purchased at the best possible prices. Maintains constant inventory control and adjusts levels according to seasonal demands.

·        Establishes procedures for receiving, storing, and issuing products to prevent waste and loss.

·        Verifies deliveries, reconciles invoices, and authorizes payment.

·        Directs compliance of workers with established Resort policies, procedures, and standards such as safekeeping of company funds and property, personnel and grievance practices, and adherence to policies governing acceptance and processing of customer credit card charges, sales of alcohol and tobacco products.

·        Inspects premises of assigned retail outlets to ensure that adequate security exists and that physical facilities comply with safety and environmental codes and ordinances.

·        Reviews operational records and reports to project sales and to determine outlet and overall department profitability.

·        Coordinates sales and promotional activities of all sports retail outlets.

·        Analyzes marketing potential of sports retail outlets and recommends marketing and promotional strategies and programs.

·        Manages subordinate supervisors who assist in supervising up to 20 employees in the Sports Retail Department.  Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department.  Also directly supervises all non-supervisory employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Resort's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, scheduling and directing work.  Also performs performance appraisals and disciplines employees.

 

Essential skills and experience:

·        College degree preferred with a minimum of three years of direct sports retail experience and/or training.

·        Design and merchandising of sports equipment and clothing necessary.

·        Must have knowledge of mountain outdoor merchandise, sporting gear, fashion and trends.

·        Must be able to strategize and verbalize retail plans.

·        Must have a working knowledge of inventory control.

·        Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

·        Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.

·        Must have or be able to obtain within the introductory period, the following:  Valid Alaska Driver's license and TAM card.

·        Work weekends & holidays.  Must be at least 21 years of age.
